Island Manager As General Manager of Marina Cay Island Resort, overseeing all aspects of the island resort, my responsibilities included: marina, fuel delivery and storage systems, multiple large septic systems, water purification and storage systems, landscaping, ferry boats and staff. I was praised by the owner and have an excellent letter which is attached. Please click here for reference letter from the Chairman of the Board
Hitachi Semiconductor When Hitachi Semiconductor first came to the United States they contacted me. They knew of me and moved my family to the Bay Area of California with a giant re-location package. They really wanted me. I designed and fully implemented their Applications Engineering department. This included setting up their first Applications Engineering Laboratory, designing it, selecting and purchasing the lab equipment and then running the lab for years. I wrote application notes that were recognized as top in the industry. I established their field applications engineering teams, defining the program, hiring the engineers and putting their field labs together. I had an ongoing training program for them with trainings twice a year that all attended, where I taught them advanced computer design based on new technologies and my own application implementations to assist their customers in their designs. I taught advanced computer design to the senior designers of the major design companies such as IBM, Sun Micro, AT&T, HP and others, often onstage in front of 200-300 senior designers and scientists.
National Semiconductor Marketing Manager totally responsible for a number of product lines. One of my greatest professional accomplishments in marketing is described: I had one product line (TMP) that was not designed properly and had a speed failure rate of 89%. Almost all of the product was thrown away at final test. It was at this point the company gave this product line to me. I did the best I could with the existing program while I investigated a market for a slower speed device that could be salvaged from the scrap semiconductors. I wrote a marketing plan and assisted with the test program development eventually recovering over 50% of the scrap and selling the product at a much higher ASP than the high speed product. 10 Years after the high speed version of the product was discontinued National was still selling my product. My market development of this product completely turned around the product line from a disaster to a highly profitable one. The Vice President of Marketing nicknamed me Bull Dog often telling other managers that if they could not make their lines profitable he would give them to Bull Dog. That name came from a particular design in with a major company in Austin. I worked the customer's Chief Engineer from every angle up till the day they had to choose the product. He called me and told me they had decided to go with the competition. That was on a Saturday afternoon. I told him I would fly to be there Monday morning with donuts for his design team and that I only wanted 20 more minutes. He told me he was really busy and he could not agree to meet me on Monday. I was in the lobby with donuts Monday morning when he came in and 4 hours later they gave me the contract and took me to lunch.
Pilot I traveled for several of these companies, zigzagging my way across the country taking care of business with my representatives and engineers, often flying every day of the week. I have never been scared of anything but I was uncomfortable with flying. One day my daughter came to me and told me she wanted to start flying lessons. I thought what a good way to confront my anxiety. I took lessons with her and got my Private Pilots License. I have done cross countries at over Flight Level 100.
SCUBA Diver Licensed 28 February 1970 by NAUI. I have pursued this hobby with a vengeance. I am very well read on blood gas issues associated with breathing Helium, Nitrogen and Oxygen under pressure, including partial pressures and the effects on decompression. I have over 4100 dives around the world with hundreds between 220 fsw (67 Meters) and 240 fsw (73 meters). I wrote a technical paper on the safety benefits of adding Helium to air in 1971 presenting it to the top 5 diving businesses, US Navy and university's in the country.
Military Electronics I joined the United States Air Force in January of 1969 after getting the maximum score for the electronics placement exam. I was sent to tech school in Denver and tested out of the program getting the maximum possible points on the graduation exam. As I was almost a year ahead of my class I applied for and became a teacher of electronics where I discovered my knack for teaching. I received a commendation for excellence for my teaching abilities. I was sent to Nellis Air force base, Nevada, home to the Fighter Weapons School for pilots. After a short time on the flight line servicing the bombing computer, radar and optical sight on the F-105 Fighter Bomber (Thunderchief) I learned of a high level electronics lab on the base. I was told it was very difficult to get into with a test that only many years of electronics could prepare one for. I tested 100% on this exam and finished my tour of service at this laboratory, being Honorably Discharged.
Engineering After being discharged from the United States Air Force, I applied for work at Aerojet General in Azusa California. I quickly was escalated in the interview process to the department with the highest level of Electronics Technicians they had at this sprawling aerospace complex and was hired as an Infrared Research and Development Technician. I worked on the design and implementation of Spy satellites and the first Forward Looking Infrared imaging technology for military applications. I was assigned to a cryogenic deep space applications lab and tested infrared sensors for space applications cooling them in dewars first with Liquid Nitrogen (77° K) and then liquid Helium (4.2° K).
I also worked at Hoffman
Electronics Corporation where I managed the government acceptance testing of
High Frequency (HF) transceivers and the calibration of advanced radar
altimeters for military aircraft.
Emergency management I have always had an interest in emergency management and disaster preparedness. I have had many volunteer positions including but not limited to the Multiple Casualty Incident Plan (California Bay Area M.C.I.P.) headed by Dr. Rush, Disaster Aid Response Team (D.A.R.T. team), A.R.E.S. Emergency Communications (Emergency Coordinator), California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention (Communications VIP Manager).
I was Co-Section Emergency Coordinator (Communications) reporting directly to one of the managers of State Department of Emergency services, Mr. Earl Thompson. He directed me to write and test a disaster response manual. I selected a major earthquake on the San Andreas Fault, located between San Jose and Santa Cruz. I selected shelter sites, coordinated Red Cross supply, set up communications stations at local hospitals, fire stations, local EOC and police, and assisted in drills. When the Loma Prieta earthquake hit October 17 1989, each of my selected shelters was opened. Hundreds were housed and fed, some for days. For a few hours when the Los Gatos EOC was evacuated I personally coordinated the needed communications take over until the EOC could be re-established.
As Section EC I selected those that would shadow (provide
communications) for the incident commanders, field headquarters as well as
district offices and helicopter rescue. This was based on my specific knowledge
of radio equipment (and sometimes real time video) and personal skill levels in
required specific communications equipment. I am very familiar with the
international Incident Response Command plan.
College Credential I had a teaching credential where I set up electronics programs in Community colleges and taught electronics and computer theory. I also developed High School electronics programs. I taught binary number systems and elementary electronics all the way up to advanced computer design.
Property Management I took over a disaster in time shares management with many owners very upset and completely turned it around. I have letters of recommendation from some of them.
I was raised in property management. I managed numerous properties for my mother who owned a Real Estate business in Southern California.
Internet Marketing I have worked with clients for years developing websites and doing search engine optimization getting them on top of the list on Google, MSN, Yahoo, AOL and many others.
Public Speaker I was raised on stage performing and spent many a luncheon and cocktail hour addressing groups such as ladies and mens clubs, finally on stage in my profession teaching advanced computer design.
Cooking I have been cooking much of my life. I make a shrimp dip with Balsamic vinegar and Canadian Maple Syrup to die for. My 24 ingredient salads and cornbread covered pork chops and nothing compared to my Bouillabaisse.
